Learning 2050

The MK Futures 2050 Commission Report (‘Making a Great City Greater’) published in 2016 envisaged a significant change in the way in which the Learning and Education System in Milton Keynes works.

This report informed the development of the ‘Milton Keynes Strategy for 2050’ published in December 2020. This is a ‘strategy for everyone living in Milton Keynes today, especially the children and young people who will be our future citizens, as well as those who will choose to move here to be part of a globally leading green city.’

One of the seven Big Ambitions in this strategy is the promise to:

  • offer better opportunities for everyone to learn and develop their skills

The “Vision for Learning and the Education System in Milton Keynes” outlined in the Learning 2050 Report (April, 2019 page 3) includes:

  • A commitment that all young people in Milton Keynes are the responsibility of all collectively
  • Collaboration between education providers as the basis for quality improvement, irrespective of organisation or governance arrangements
  • Support for schools that need capacity to help them to improve as they plan to must be part of the system.

A significant section of the Learning 2050 Report focuses on the aim of raising standards of attainment in Milton Keynes schools in order to support the aim of the MK Futures programme in attracting and supporting the development of businesses in Milton Keynes as well as students entering Higher Education locally at MK:U and the Institute of Technology.

Three boards provided the strategic leadership for work on key objectives and actions identified in the Learning 2050 Report:

  • Apprenticeships
  • School-Business Links and Curriculum
  • MKSH/IoT/MK:U * (preparation for further and higher education in Milton Keynes)

These boards reported to the Strategic Board which oversees the work of the Milton Keynes Education align-centerhip and Learning 2050.

The work of the Learning 2050 Project was supported by the Learning 2050 Project Manager, Michael Manley.
